Outdoor Switchyards for 33/400kV or 33/220kV Substations of Renewable Energy projects

Climate change has forced Utilities and Power producers all over the World to shift from fossile fuel based power generation to renewable means of power generation through Solar PV plates, Wind turbines, Battery energy storage system, Pump storage systems etc. In Solar or Wind turbine power generations, the power generated at the solar or wind turbine farms is brought to the MV Pooling switchgear at the Switchyard by overhead lines or by underground cables before it is stepped up to 132kV or 220kV or 400kV for grid interconnection. The stepped up power gets connected to the nearby grid substation of the National grid or State grid by Transmission line. The Switchyard thus formed is generally connected in one main one transfer bus scheme for 132kV Switchyards and in double bus scheme for 220kV and 400kV Switchyards. For 220kV and 400kVSwitchyards, a bypass Isolator is generally used across the feeder circuit breaker to enable maintenance of the CB without loosing the feeder.
