Medium Voltage Overhead Distribution lines 11/22/33kV
An Overhead Distribution line is used for the distribution of electrical power from distribution / primary substation to the various load centres like domestic loads, commercial loads, medium voltage industrial loads etc. The line voltage is normally 33kV or 22kV or 11kV. The distribution line is made up of a single or multiple conductor/s per phase having a uniform cross-section along the line. Air acts as an insulating or dielectric medium between the conductors and between tower/pole earthed metal parts. For safety purpose, the clearance between the line and ground must be high enough to meet the requirements of the IEC 60071. Steel lattice type towers or tubular monopoles or concrete poles are used for supporting the conductors of the distribution line. The length of the distribution lines are normally restricted to 15-20km.
